A barcode scanner POS with scale support: what it covers
The register reads barcodes three ways, reads scale labels, sells by weight and applies lower prices by quantity. It all happens inside the invoice itself, with no second program for the scale.
- Scan items with a handheld scanner, a built-in scanner or the device camera.
- Read scale labels, which are EAN-13 barcodes starting with a number from 20 to 29.
- Sell by weight by entering the weight yourself.
- Quantity price tiers: a lower unit price from a set quantity.
Ways to scan
| Method | When it fits |
|---|---|
| Handheld barcode scanner | A busy counter with big baskets |
| Built-in scanner on the POS terminal | One terminal that combines the screen, printer and scanner |
| Phone or iPad camera | Starting with no extra gear, or a small kiosk |
| Typing the code or searching by name | An item with a damaged barcode or none at all |
Your phone is a scanner if you don't have one
If you are opening a small shop or a kiosk at an event, you don't need to buy a scanner on day one. The camera scans the barcode and the item is added at its price. When the shop grows and the queues get longer, you add a handheld scanner and carry on with the same account and items.
The scale label
The scale at the produce, meat or cheese counter prints a label, and its barcode is EAN-13 starting with a number from 20 to 29. That barcode carries the item code along with the weight or the price.
The cashier scans the label once, and the invoice gets the item and the correct amount. You set the label format once in Settings, and after that every label reads by itself.
Sale by weight
You mark an item as sold by weight in the dashboard, and its price is worked out from the weight. When there is no label, such as spices or nuts weighed on request, you enter the weight yourself, or it is read from the scale label.
Quantity price tiers
From a set quantity the unit price is lower. You set the tier once and the register applies it when the quantity is reached, so nobody works out a discount by hand or argues it with the customer. It suits water cases, tissues and any pack customers buy in numbers.
A barcode for every variant
An item with variants, such as sizes and colors, gives each variant its own code, barcode and stock. You scan the right variant, and the balance drops from that variant, not from the item in general.
The counter at peak hour
Friday after prayers and the queue is out the door. The cashier scans item after item and only touches the screen to pay. If an item's barcode is damaged, they type the code or search by name and it is added at its price, without holding up the line.
Any discount or void on the invoice is permission-based, and staff without the permission need the manager's PIN. So scanning speed doesn't open a door to mistakes.
Your items and their barcodes
Items that carry a manufacturer barcode are scanned as they are. We load your items and their barcodes from a file for free, so you start selling the same day without re-entering anything.
Frequently asked questions
Can I scan barcodes with my phone camera?
Yes. The camera scans the barcode and the item is added at its price, and you can use a handheld or built-in scanner instead.
Does the register read scale labels?
Yes, when the label is an EAN-13 barcode starting with a number from 20 to 29 and carrying the weight or price. You set the label format in Settings.
What if my scale doesn't print labels?
You enter the weight yourself and the price is worked out from it.
Can I give a lower price for big quantities?
Yes, with quantity price tiers: from a quantity you set, the unit price drops and the register applies it.
What if the barcode is damaged or the item has none?
The cashier types the code or searches for the item by name, and it is added at its price.
Does selling by barcode carry on offline?
Yes. Sales carry on without internet, and invoices are saved on the device and sync when the connection returns, with no loss or duplicates.
