The invoice transaction code (KSA-2) must exist and respect the following structure: NNPNESB where NN (positions 1 and 2) = invoice subtype: - 01 for tax invoice - 02 for simplified tax invoice P (position 3) = 3rd Party invoice transaction, 0 for false, 1 for true N (position 4) = Nominal invoice transaction, 0 for false, 1 for true E (position 5) = Exports invoice transaction, 0 for false, 1 for true S (position 6) = Summary invoice transaction, 0 for false, 1 for true B (position 7) = Self billed invoiceError · Source: ZATCA E-Invoicing SDK 238-R3.3.8 · Electronic Invoice XML Implementation Standard v1.2, 19 May 2023, §13.3.1, p. 48 · Checked: 26 October 2026
What it means
The name attribute on the invoice type code must be seven digits in the order NNPNESB: the first two are 01 for a tax invoice or 02 for a simplified one, followed by five digits that are each 0 or 1 (third party, nominal, export, summary, self-billed).
When it happens
- The system writes only 01 or 02 without the five flags.
- The name attribute is missing.
- A digit other than 0 or 1 appears in positions three to seven.
How to fix it
- For an ordinary simplified invoice at the point of sale, write 0200000.
- For an ordinary tax invoice between two businesses, write 0100000.
- Set a flag in positions three to seven to 1 only when the transaction really is of that kind.
Example
<cbc:InvoiceTypeCode name="02">388</cbc:InvoiceTypeCode>
<cbc:InvoiceTypeCode name="0200000">388</cbc:InvoiceTypeCode>
We ran the wrong example through ZATCA's SDK 238-R3.3.8 on 26 October 2026 and it raised BR-KSA-06, along with BR-KSA-31. The example is an excerpt of ZATCA's sample Simplified/Invoice/Simplified_Invoice.xml with one change; the sample without it does not raise the code.
